So you love hair extensions and you also love your regular salon sessions. Great!

Er... or maybe not so great. You just got your new hair extensions, but you'd like to get a perm really bad. Do you or do you not get a perm? Oh no, what will you do?

Can I do hair treatments with hair extensions?

The concern is valid, but there's no need to worry at all. Hair extensions, especially the high-quality kind ( like our very own human Remy hair extensions here at ZALA), are not meant to be treated like fragile glass pieces that will break at the slightest stress.

In short, the answer is yes, you can certainly do hair treatments with hair extensions.

However, as with anything, there are some limits as to the type and frequency of treatments that you can do.

Compatible and incompatible hair treatments with hair extensions

Whenever you want to do something to your hair, ask yourself the following questions first: do I absolutely need this? What are the risks? Do the benefits outweigh the risks? Doing so can help you decide whether or not you should push through with what you want to do.

Perming. You can perm your hair extensions if you'd like... but would you really want to get permanent curls? You can always curl your hair extensions if necessary, after all. Just remember to use safe curling wands or straighteners (don't worry, no judgments here) and not to overdo it.
Rebonding. Technically, you can do this too, but it's not recommended. For one, hair rebonding can be a very costly procedure. Hair extensions, on average, can only last up to two months maximum, so it's probably best if you leave the rebonding to your real hair. Two, hair extensions usually come already prebonded, which means they're already straight and soft when they make it to your hands.
Hair masks. Did you know that your hair extensions can actually benefit a lot from hair masks? Even though they're probably already soft when you first buy them, eventually, there's a chance that they'll look dry too, especially if you use them on a daily basis. Make sure to use effective hair masks, be it DIY or not!

Heat is your hair extensions' (as well as your own hair's) worst enemy, so as long as you try to keep using heat at a minimum, your hair should be safe and sound.

How to make hair extensions last

You can make your hair extensions last longer by taking care of them well. And taking care of them well means taking care of them the way you would do your real hair.
