Is Your Hair Too Dry?
Is your hair too dry? There are many reasons for dry hair, but believe it or not, there are times when it's almost impossible to determine whether your hair lacks moisture or is just naturally rough.
If you find yourself in this kind of situation, fret note – here are some guidelines on determining if your hair is indeed too try.
1. Texture
The first way that you can tell if your is too dry is by checking its texture. Hair that's too dry feels very coarse and feels almost the same as straw. Have you ever touched dried straw before? It's extremely rough and hard, and it doesn't feel good to the touch at all. If your hair has this texture, it means that the cuticles themselves are rough, mainly due to being stripped of moisture and lacking in much-needed nourishment.
2. Flexibility
While the texture should be a dead giveaway, another way to see if your hair is too dry is if it's no longer flexible. Healthy hair should be very flexible, enough to withstand even moderate pulls and stretches. Flexible hair is well-nourished and moisturized, which is a good indicator that your hair is at its optimum health.
To see how flexible your hair is, take a small strand of your hair and wrapped it around your finger. If it doesn't break or snap, that means it has sufficient moisture. If it starts to feel like you're wrapping straw around your finger, though, then it's time to tackle your dry hair problem.
3. Bounce
Bounciness is another good indicator of your hair's health. Dry hair, on the other hand, is dull and lifeless. If your hair no longer bounces when you move and looks lifeless even from afar, then the answer is clear: your hair is way too dry. You should definitely do something about it ASAP.
4. Ends
Another way to determine if your hair is too dry is to check the ends. How do they look? Healthy hair should have ends that are firm and solid. On the other hand, if your hair has tons of split-ends, then it's a huge sign that your hair is indeed too dry. Just like their name implies, splits ends are strands of hair that are splitting off into multiple ends. They are easily recognizable by their double or triple ends or white ball-like things at the end of your strands.
5. Damage
Another thing that you should look out for is damage in your hair. Many people seem to think that dry hair means damaged hair, but that's not actually the truth.
Damaged hair can be dry, but not all dry hair is damaged hair. When your hair is just dry, you can easily repair it with a deep mask session or two. When your hair is damaged though, you have no choice but to cut off all the damaged sections and start anew. Split ends and breakage are tell-tale signs of damage and those should be removed as soon as possible to avoid damaging your hair further.
