6. Heat-styling every day

You already know that heat is your hair's biggest enemy is heat, so why do you have to engage them in battle every single day?

Heat-styling can dehydrate your healthy hair and cause further damage to already dry and weak hair. If you really have to keep heat-styling your hair, regardless of the reason, make sure that it's at least protected by a heat protection serum or something. That way, you can at least mitigate any potential damage on your strands.

7. Not having a hair care routine

What's worse than having a bad hair care routine? Not having one in the first place.

If you don't care enough for your hair to build a good and effective routine, then nothing we say or do can improve your hair's state. You see, if you're not motivated enough yourself, you probably won't stick to anything we say, either.

This is the worst habit to have if you want to have gorgeous hair, but it's also the hardest to break. Most of the time, it's caused by laziness or lack of interest, both of which are pretty hard to combat.

How to break bad hair care habits

Of course, there are many ways on how you can break any type of bad habit, but here are three of our tips on how to break bad hair care habits in particular.

1. Know your 'why'

In whatever you do, knowing your 'why' is important. After all, if you don't know why you're doing something, there's a good chance that you won't feel very motivated to keep on doing it.

For instance, if you're trying out a new hair treatment but you don't really see why you need to do it, there's a pretty high chance that you'll only do it once and never think about it again.

Similarly, if you're trying to break a bad hair care habit, you have to know why you want to break it in the first place. Want to use your crowning glory to feel more confident at work? Want to start impressing someone? Just want to have great hair in general? Whatever your 'why' is, feel it, visualize it, and most importantly, let it empower you to break through your bad habits.

2. Go slowly but surely

Rome wasn't built in a day, nor will you break your bad hair care habits in the same time.

The best strategy is to go slowly but surely. Let's say you want to start eating vegetables because you read that vitamin-rich foods are good for your hair. If you've been carnivore your whole life before this decision, you certainly won't have an easy time if you suddenly decide to cut meat out of your diet, or if you suddenly replace your dinner with a salad. Just start small, like maybe add broccoli here or there, and you'll slowly start getting used to it.

3. Find an alternative

Another way to break a bad hair care habit is to find an alternative to whatever it is you were doing.

This works best for habits like heat-styling your hair way too often. If you're used to using a blower on your strands every day, why not start air-drying? Not only will it not damage your hair, but air-drying also has a lot of benefits too, you know.

Or if you really need to use a heat-styling tool, why not find a less harsh alternative? You can also adjust the tool's heat setting to make sure that you're only getting the heat you need and nothing more.
